Kevin Gallagher Withdraws from Senate Race
Memphis, TN - State Senate candidate Kevin Gallagher announced earlier today that he is withdrawing as a candidate in the Democratic primary to fill the State Senate seat vacated by Congressman-Elect Steve Cohen.
In a statement made to friends and supporters, Gallagher said he entered the race to ensure Memphis would continue to be represented in the State Senate with the same integrity and commitment to service that it had known for the past 24 years under Cohen, its former Senator.
"I was bolstered by the encouragement of Congressman-Elect Cohen and that of many of his long time supporters," said Gallagher. "However, with the entry of State Representative Beverly Marrero in this race, I believe the traditions of service we have come to expect can best be assured with only one of us in the (State Senate) race."
Gallagher continued by endorsing Marrero and encouraging others to support her. "I have a great deal of respect for Representative Marrero and running against each other would have done a disservice to the people of our district. I look forward to her victory in the Senate race."
Gallagher did not comment on speculation he would seek Marrero's vacant District 89 House seat, in the event of her senate election victory.

Sorry Kevin is not running, he bowed to an inferior candidate. With Kevin, there would be no question(now or in the future)of his ethics, honesty or motives. I mourn what could have been.
This is sad news because now all you have to chose from is a drop out who bancrupted several businesses, who does none of her own work in the state house and cannot type. vs. A known Chism croney who is always on the wrong side of every development and even represented R.A.C.E. so they could dump tons of radioactive material here in Memphis. I won't vote Republican but will work to end this good ole boy primary thing, it must be stopped now. Sorry Kevin I would have helped you, but not now this is the secound time you've been cast aside. You were not even supported by your former boss A.C. I will not Support you for Dist. 89 because you made a deal however. There are better candidates out there try the city elections I here there will be openings....
IT is interesting that the same group of screaming white liberals, a few of whom left the Democratic Executive Committee during their racial challenges to the candidates for Kathryn Bowers replacement process, aren't screaming about QUALIFICATIONS NOW! How about the education, financial, criminal or ethical qualifications of the candidates seeking the special election positions in State District 92 and Senate 32?
Desi you know whom I am talking about! You Ted and a few other that wanted to set such high standards for District 33 - a Black seat!
I'm with you Anon:10:38 this crap has to stop all this good ole boy crap and picking of candidates is what republican boot lickers do!! As Democrats we should have primaries and may the best person win period lets work on Memphis getting better instead of picking a guy driving on a revoked license.
